PROCESS ENGINEER (PE)
1. Position Overview
Job Title: Process Engineer – Assembly & Test (GaN Power Devices)
Reports to: Operations Director
Works closely with: Quality Engineering, Design, Test, Production, Suppliers
Mission Statement:
Develop, optimize, and sustain robust, repeatable assembly and test processes for GaN
e-HEMT power devices, achieving target yield, reliability, and manufacturability
including the industrialisation of new products and the transfer from design intent to
stable, qualified manufacturing while ensuring full digital traceability and readiness for
space and aerospace qualification flows.
2. Scope of Responsibility
The Process Engineer is responsible for the technical definition, characterization, and
continuous improvement of all in-house assembly and test processes to ensure that
processes are capable, well-documented, and ready for qualification, while operating
under the governance and release authority of Quality Engineering.
3. Key Responsibilities
3.1 Process Development & Optimization
Define and optimize process parameters for:
Develop detailed:
o Work Instructions
o Process flow diagrams
o Draft PFMEAs and Control Plans (in collaboration with Quality
Engineering)
Lead Design of Experiments (DoE) for:
o Materials (epoxies, solders, bonding wires)
o Surface finishes
o Curing profiles and thermal budgets
Characterize the thermal, mechanical, and electrical impact of process
parameters on device performance and reliability
Define the industrial manufacturing flow for new products following APQP
3.2 Process Capability & SPC Execution
Establish and run Statistical Process Control (SPC) at equipment and process
level in alignment with Quality-defined SPC strategy.
Monitor:
o Cp / Cpk
o Yield
o Voiding
o Bond pull / shear
Analyze excursions and process drifts; propose corrective actions and process
improvements. Support yield reviews and process health reviews jointly with Quality and
Operations.
3.3 Quality & Compliance Support
Ensure process definitions are compliant with:
o MIL-STD-750
o MIL-PRF-19500
o JEDEC standards
o Customer and space/aerospace flow-downs
Compile technical process evidence for:
o First lots
o Process qualification
o Customer reviews
Support root cause analysis and CAPA implementation for process-related non-
conformances.
Ensure all process, material, or recipe changes are properly documented and
submitted through formal change control.
3.4 Equipment & Materials Engineering
Define:
o Equipment recipes
o Calibration requirements
o Preventive maintenance plans
Support qualification and acceptance of:
o New tools
o Process automation solutions
Evaluate and technically qualify new materials for thermal, mechanical, and
reliability compatibility.
3.5 Data, MES & Traceability Integration
Ensure complete and accurate process data collection via equipment interfaces
Support integration of process data into traceability systems, ensuring:
o Parameter traceability
o Configuration linkage
o Lot / serial integrity
Analyze defect, yield, and trend data using statistical tools (Minitab, JMP,
Python, Excel).
3.6 Cross-Functional Collaboration & Training
Work closely with:
o Design (DFM / DFR feedback)
o Quality Engineering
o Production
Train operators and technicians on:
o Process setup
o Handling
o Troubleshooting
Actively contribute to Lean / Kaizen / 5S / improvement initiatives.4. Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Materials Science, Microelectronics, Electrical,
Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering (or equivalent).
Experience
5+ years in semiconductor assembly or advanced packaging.
Hands-on experience with:
o Die attach
o Wire bonding
o Cleanroom manufacturing
Experience with SPC, FMEA, DoE, CAPA, and 8D.
Knowledge of ERP/MES systems and digital traceability.
Familiarity with MIL-STD-750 and JEDEC standards.
Skills & Attributes
Strong analytical and experimental mindset.
Structured problem-solving capability.
High discipline for documentation and traceability.
Comfortable in startup / scale-up environments.
Strong communication skills (English required; Spanish and French are assets).
