QUALITY ENGINEER (QE)
1. Position Overview
Job Title: Quality Engineer – Semiconductor Manufacturing & Packaging
Reports to: Operations Director
Works closely with: Process Engineering, Operations, Suppliers, Customers
Mission Statement:
Ensure zero quality escapes, full traceability, and audit-ready compliance across in-
house clean-room operations and subcontracted post-fab processes ensuring controlled,
auditable, and gated transition of new products into qualified production, in alignment
with space and aerospace reliability expectations.
2. Scope of Responsibility
The Quality Engineer owns process governance, supplier quality, and product release
authority for all manufacturing steps from wafer probe through final die/package
release, with supervision of subcontracted processes.
3. Key Responsibilities
3.1 Process & Product Quality Governance
Own and maintain PFMEA, Control Plans, and Inspection Plans for the different
processes, either in-house or subcontracted.
Ensure process limits, sampling plans, and acceptance criteria are defined,
implemented, and enforced.
Approve process qualification from a quality and compliance standpoint.
Ensure processes remain frozen and controlled post-qualification.
Ensure APQP is applied and followed in NPI (new products introduction).
3.2 Supplier Quality Management
Lead qualification, monitoring, and re-qualification of subcontractors.
Define and enforce:
o Supplier Quality Agreements (SQAs)
o Golden samples
o Change notification and approval processes
Conduct or support supplier audits (on-site or remote).
Review and approve supplier process changes before implementation.
Lead supplier-related non-conformances, deviations, and CAPAs.
3.3 Non-Conformance & CAPA Management
Own the full lifecycle of:
o Non-conformances (internal and supplier)
o Deviations and waiverso Root cause analysis (8D, 5-Why, Fishbone)
o Corrective and preventive actions (CAPA)
Ensure timely closure and effectiveness verification.
Escalate systemic risks to management.
Actively propose and implement Continuous Improvement initiatives.
3.4 Statistical Process Control (SPC) & Data Integrity
Define and own SPC strategy (charts, control limits, reaction plans).
Monitor Cp/Cpk trends and process stability.
Ensure data integrity across MES, travelers, SPC systems.
Lead periodic process health reviews with Process Engineering and Operations.
3.5 Traceability & Configuration Control
Ensure full end-to-end traceability:
o Wafer → die → lot → shipment
o In-house + subcontracted steps
Control configuration baselines:
o Process recipes
o Materials
o Suppliers
o Revisions
Ensure compliance with customer, space, and regulatory traceability expectations.
3.6 Audit & Compliance
Prepare and host:
o AS9100 / ISO 9001 audits
o Customer audits
o Supplier audits
Maintain audit-ready documentation at all times.
Act as the primary quality interface to customers and regulatory bodies.
Ensure alignment with applicable standards:
o AS9100
o MIL-PRF-19500
o MIL-STD-883 / 750
o ESA / ECSS (as applicable)
o Customer-specific flow-downs
3.7 Training & Competence Management
Define and maintain:
o Operator training programs
o Certification matrices
o Re-certification requirements
Ensure operators are trained and certified before running qualified processes.
Control training records and competence evidence.4. Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Materials Science, Microelectronics, Electrical,
Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering (or equivalent).
Experience
5+ years in semiconductor manufacturing or advanced packaging
Experience with fabless or OSAT-based models
Experience in high-reliability / aerospace / space electronics
Technical Knowledge
Semiconductor back-end and packaging processes
Failure mechanisms (bond lift, voiding, delamination, cracking)
SPC and statistical analysis
Quality systems and audits
Traceability and configuration management
Standards & Methods
AS9100 / ISO 9001
MIL-STD-883 / 750
PFMEA, Control Plan, SPC
CAPA, 8D, Root Cause Analysis
Skills & Attributes
Strong analytical and experimental mindset.
Structured problem-solving capability.
High discipline for documentation and traceability.
Comfortable in startup / scale-up environments.
Strong communication skills (English required; Spanish and French are assets).
